4月16日，广元赛区组委会召开新闻通气会，通报了此次联赛的相关情况。
据介绍，本次联赛既是2016年四川省业余足球联赛广元赛区竞赛，同时又是“体彩杯”2016年广元市春季足球联赛，全市共有24支足球队参赛（其中8支球队来自县区，并有8支球队参加过2015年市级足球联赛，新建球队16支）将会分成A、B、C三个比赛小组，合计进行96场次比赛（其中小组赛84场，淘汰赛12场）。
本届比赛设置了总奖金两万元的“体彩杯“最佳球队评选，总奖金一万元的“博翔杯”最佳射手奖评选，同时还设置了“利州电视台杯”广元首届足球宝贝选拔赛、“广电网络杯”广元首届足球摄影比赛，合计奖励赞助基金近8万元。
历时3个月的整个赛季，一场场精湛博弈、友好交流的足球比赛，将开创广元足球发展的历史篇章，也将开启广元业余足球未来蓬勃发展的春天！
